Leah Stewart presents a personal exploration of interwoven themes of caregiving, motherhood, and interiority through painting and drawing. Through a rich palette and shifting marks, these paintings evolve with the 鈥榩rotective shape鈥 as a recurring motif, evoking a sense of shelter and containment.
Stewart鈥檚 work explores the dual experience of holding and being held - both the physical embrace and the emotional 鈥榟olding鈥 required of a caregiver. These structures act as vessels, cradling vibrant, sometimes chaotic elements that seem poised on the brink of spilling over.

Traditionally making intaglio prints is very hard to achieve outside of a printmaking studio due to the heavy and costly equipment needed but by using a pasta roller in this session, you will learn how this can be achieved ...in your own kitchen!
During the session you will be guided through the design process and learn about the materials that are going to be used to make your print. Next you will prepare your own printing plate before printing your design onto paper using the pasta maker. Please feel free to bring your own small sketches to work from, or just come and be inspired during the class.
Printing can be messy so please wear suitable clothing, or bring some overalls. Mostly come ready to enjoy experimenting! There will be a lunch break at 13:00 and you're welcome to bring a packed lunch!

What's the difference between a Singers Night and a Theme Night?
A Singers Night is a friendly informal gathering where you, the audience, provide the entertainment. Everyone has a chance to perform, 鈥 a song, a tune, a poem, a story or a joke. All standards are acceptable. You can of course just sit back and be entertained by others if you wish. You will all get a warm welcome.
A Theme Night is much the same as a Singers Night except we try to link the songs etc. to the theme, however tenuous the link may be.
This week's theme "rivers" should give plenty of opportunities.

The University鈥檚 Holocaust Memorial Day event is an opportunity to remember those who were murdered, learn from history, and act. Through remembrance and education, we can challenge Holocaust denial and genocide distortion, speak out against prejudice, and build a society grounded in understanding and inclusivity. By working together, we can honour the past while committing to a future free from hatred.
Speakers will include Robert Van de Noort, Vice Chancellor and Professor Parveen Yaqoob, Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation).
