Background
Career to date
Prior to joining the IoE, Scarlett previously worked as an Assistant Head across a federation, where she taught for 10 years. During her time working in a primary school, she led computing, maths and most recently English as a subject leader. During her time teaching in school, Scarlett was head of years 3 and 6 and would support surrounding schools with writing moderation for key stage 2.
Scarlett has supported schools around the UK with ‘Talk 4 Writing’ by delivering training and was instrumental in developing the scheme across the 伊人直播app area.
Scarlett enjoyed leading the singing assemblies in her school and holding clubs such as cheerleading, singing and gardening.
Career at the IoE
Scarlett started as a full-time lecturer and Assistant Director on the Primary PGCE programme in January 2019 and has since worked as an English specialism lecturer on the BA (QTS) programme. Scarlett has previously shared the teaching of the English module on the Primary PGCE and was the year 2 convenor and module convenor for two of the English specialism modules on the BA (QTS) programme. During this time, she co-wrote a book chapter on teaching poetry in primary schools.
Scarlett moved into the role of Programme Director of the PG programme in July 2021. Since then, she has been working on developing the professional studies module, strengthening the pathway provision and has implemented many strategies and procedures for interviewing, streamlining assessments and managing the workload of the students. In the past year, she led her programme to be re-accredited and through a successful Ofsted inspection.
Scarlett leads the recruitment of students for her programme and the wider teacher training programmes in her role as Deputy Director for Recruitment and Admissions, delivering training to university colleagues, school mentors and tutors to ensure inclusivity and accessibility of interviews processes.
Scarlett’s area of research, which she explored through her MA dissertation, was the impact of a therapeutic approach to behaviour management in primary schools and she hopes to continue this research through completing a PhD. She leads the teaching of all behaviour management sessions across the primary teacher training courses at the IoE.
